The Process

How Farm Shares Work

Buying a farm share is different from buying meat at a store, and we want it to feel clear from the first step. Here is exactly what happens.

  1. 01

    Reserve Your Share

You select a beef or pork share and pay the reservation deposit.

  2. 02

    Become a Documented Co-Owner

Your ownership interest is assigned to a specifically identified live animal before slaughter.

  3. 03

    Processing & Preparation

Once the animal is scheduled, we keep you updated through processing and preparation. Processing options depend on the animal, share size, and processor — fractional shares may use Robertson Acres' standard processing specifications.

  4. 04

    Fill Your Freezer

After the final farm-share balance is paid, you pick up your portion. Processing charges are paid separately to the processor.

Pricing and processing

Final Robertson Acres share price is based on the animal's actual hanging weight. Custom processing is charged separately.

Rates apply to your ownership share of the animal's actual hanging weight, and your deposit is credited toward that total, so the final farm-share price isn't known until hanging weight is recorded. Slaughter and processing charges are set and collected by the processor, not by Robertson Acres.

Processing options depend on the animal, the share size, and the assigned processor. Fractional shares may be processed under Robertson Acres' standard processing specifications, with finished packages allocated by ownership percentage. Custom processing options may be available for whole-animal ownership depending on the processor. Full details are provided in your reservation and Farm Share Agreement.

Reservation policy

  • Your deposit applies to the final Robertson Acres farm-share price.
  • The deposit is refundable before a specific live animal is assigned to your share.
  • After a specific live animal is assigned and ownership is documented, the deposit becomes non-refundable unless Robertson Acres cannot fulfill the share.
  • If Robertson Acres cannot fulfill the share due to animal loss, processing failure, legal inability to complete the transaction, or another issue on our side, you may receive a refund or voluntarily transfer payments to another available animal.
  • The remaining Robertson Acres balance is due after actual hanging weight is available and before finished product is released.
  • Custom processing fees are separate and controlled by the processor.
  • Finished product is not released with an unpaid Robertson Acres balance.
